“We continue to create suffering, waging war with good, waging war with evil, waging what with what is too small, waging war with what is too big, waging war with what is too short or too long, or right or wrong, courageously carrying on the battle.” – Achaan ChahI saw this quote in a book of quotes the other day in my practice and thought it was so apt to our current health-care approach. How much of our energy are we spending waging war?
We are at war with cancer, fighting swine flu or battling chronic disease. In fact, sometimes our health-care practitioners are even starting wars among each other.
If only we could spend more time and money creating rather than fighting. Perhaps we could teach people how to create health. Perhaps we could teach people how to create a healthy lifestyle. Perhaps we could even teach our health-care practitioners how to work together for the good of the patient rather than fight against each other.
We could create healthy meals, we could create healthy exercise regimes, we could create healthy thought patterns and we could create a world where there is much less chronic disease to fight against.
It is time for a new approach to health and people are starting to demand it. People don’t want war they want solutions.
