Fringe review - Body Language, Mark Butler

26 Feb, 2008 03:46 PM
Body Language aims for the head and the funny bone and hits the target every time. Once again, Mark Butler takes his audience darkly through the looking glass. At last year’s Fringe he explored foul language. This time, he is looking at what our body language says about us.

Ingeniously idiosyncratic, Butler hits the Freudian jackpot as he wraps his head around themes such as bogans, sex, attraction, losing virginity, love and cultural differences. He is only offensive in the funniest possible way. His style of comedy is educational and this show is really what Mark Butler saw when peeping through the keyhole at Mr & Mrs Average. What’s more, the humour gets better the more one thinks about it.

Brush aside the jokes and there is a delicate social commentary underneath. Frequently funny and often hilarious, this show has the feel of a long and fascinating conversation rather than a joke fest. Witty, vibrant, and delightfully demented, Mark Butler is wise, cruelly observant and hysterically funny. Electric Light Hotel until March 2.
