If you’re never been to Kangaroo Island, you’ll never have seen a narrow-leaf mallee. Known for its “mop-top foliage and slender, curving limbs”, the tree is a defining feature of the KI landscape but is not found anywhere else.
Now, however, the narrow-leaf mallee is coming to Adelaide – on canvas, at least. “How do we love thee? Let us count the ways...” is an exhibition at the National Wine Centre exploring the beauty of the species.
With 45 works on show, Fleur Peters of Fine Art Kangaroo Island says it will be the largest exhibition of KI art Adelaide’s ever seen.
“KI is a unique arts destination and beloved home to hundreds of creative souls,” she says. “This is a rare opportunity, in a mainland location, to experience the finest of KI’s artworks, created from the heart of its deep artistic roots.”
Featured artists include Jenny Clapson, Nicholas Burness Pike, Janet Ayliffe and Janine Mackintosh.
The exhibition is on until the end of August and is part of the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) festival, which opens today and features the work of more than 3000 artists at venues across the state.
