As the eager audience arrive at Her Majesty’s Theatre they are greeted by the sight of young topless male waiters who move nonchalantly amongst the crowd.
Bev Killick kicks off with a 25 minute stand up comedy routine that sets the tone of the evening. Queenslander Bev is a confident professional who ‘owns’ the stage and her cheeky, risqué material is well written and delivered.
After a short interval Emma Powell and Bev Killick proudly strut the stage semi naked for most of the show and the (mainly mature-age female) audience love it - so they should.
Emma and Bev cleverly manipulate their ample mammaries in a variety of poses and witty shadow puppetry that evoked knowing giggles from many women. The use of a large video screen and a stage crew member with a hand held video camera ensured that everyone had a front row seat.
It’s hard not to describe this show as the female equivalent of the hugely successful ‘Puppetry of the Penis’ and there’s every good reason this show should enjoy similar accolades and longevity.
Emma (also the creator of ‘Busting Out’) has a terrific voice which is put to good use in the songs dotted throughout the 90-minute second half.
If you should find yourself in the front row or a centre aisle seat… be prepared, that’s all I can say!
Last night’s show was a sell-out, and judging by the enthusiastic comments I overheard as we left the theatre, many of them will return for a second evening of laughs.
At Her Majesty's Theatre until April 22.
