Climate Sceptics top Senate ticket

30 Jul, 2010 02:52 PM
The Climate Sceptics can hardly believe their luck in landing first place on the South Australian Senate ballot ticket.

Family First got the last spot, right after the Australian Sex Party.

Forty-two candidates are vying for the six SA seats up for grabs in the upcoming August 21 federal election.

The Climate Sceptics SA president, Leon Ashby, is delighted to secure the first spot that many believe can deliver an advantage from "donkey" votes.

"It is fantastic," Mr Ashby said.

"It is the number one spot, it should give us a bit of an opportunity, but you never can tell until you know what the preferences are like."

Immediately after the draw in Adelaide today, candidates began swapping mobile numbers in hopes of bedding down preference deals.

"That's what happens in next 24 hours. People ring each other up and say what are your policies on this and this," Mr Ashby said.

"From us, we know that the climate change issue has been exaggerated.

"It is not man-made, it is cyclical.

"All this money that has been promised or spent, whether it is renewable energy money, or reducing emissions or carbon tax ... it is all unnecessary.

"There is plenty of evidence, if you look at the hard data, to show there is nothing that we can do with emissions to change the climate.

"There is a small differences with land use change and things like that, but that has nothing to do with carbon dioxide emissions."

Second on the SA ticket is independent Mark Aldridge, a One Nation candidate in the last federal election and an independent in the recent state election.

The Australian Labor Party is at number three, followed by the Liberals and One Nation.

The Greens are in the 10th position, the Sex Party is at 17 and Family First at 18.

Independent Michelle Drummond is ungrouped.

Wonderful. Congratulations to Leon Ashby AND Mark Aldridge. The FREE Australia Party (SA) absolutely support BOTH of these candidates as our top priorities.

Being the second independent name on the B group's listing I find it a misrepresentation that everyone thinks that it is just mark Aldridge running on the ticket well its not. This maybe my first time running but i am quiet aware and up-to date more on the issues that effect the people and I have allot of great solutions in how the issues should be addressed as the people of South Australia as well as the rest of the country deserve better and I am prepared to stand up for them and to block any proposal that will not be in the country's or states best interest. Yes mark is my co-running mate but we are 2 different people and my views are different than his on a few issues. I also want to get this message forward that even thou we are running on the same ticket we come from totally different backgrounds there are allot of people out there that are annoyed at the fact that everyone seems to think this is marks group well its not. I am no ones puppet and never will be I'm running to give the people another option one of People running for the people I have been out meeting the great people of South Australia and will continue doing so as the people in my eyes are my bosses not Mark.
