The lawyer for a woman accused of stealing her internet lover's seven-year-old son has told a Melbourne court she fears for her safety in custody.
However, Danielle Boundy, 36, faces a three-week wait to learn if she will be granted bail after magistrate Felicity Broughton today remanded her back in custody.
Ms Boundy, from Winchelsea, faces eight charges in the Melbourne Magistrate's Court, including child stealing and assault, following her arrest at a Port Augusta, South Australia, motel on July 10.
Defence lawyer David McKenzie said it was appropriate his client receive forensic psychiatric assessment which was not easy to get at short notice.
He told the court his client had become distressed in custody after being placed in a 23-hour lockdown due to fears for her safety.
He asked that if bail was granted, details of Ms Boundy's address be suppressed.
Police yesterday opposed bail saying Ms Boundy did not appreciate the weight of her actions.
Ms Boundy allegedly attacked her lover with a bread knife and a hammer in the days prior to stealing the man's seven-year-old son at a service station in Sebastapol in central Victoria.
She allegedly then took the boy on a road trip to Port Augusta.
The bail application will resume on August 11.
