Four shots fired at a home in North Adelaide, where six people were living, may be linked to a failed property deal, police say.
Police said the family targeted in the incident early this morning knew their attackers.
They would not rule out a link to gang-related organised crime, and said the family believed the incident was connected to a failed property deal.
Detective Chief Inspector John Gerlach said police were aware of threats made against the family earlier this year.
"There have been a number of previous threats that police have been investigating," he said.
The attack was "possibly a message".
The four adults and two children escaped injury when two bullets were fired through the front windows of the property and two more struck the front of the house at 12.35am today.
Police would not rule out the possibility of multiple gunmen and said the shots were not fired from a vehicle.
"The way in which the rounds had hit the house and the surrounding fences and other things involved would indicate they (the attackers) were walking," Insp Gerlach said.
The investigation is continuing.
