Small allocation rise for Murray irrigators

Small allocation rise for Murray irrigators

16 Nov, 2009 07:13 AM
South Australia's River Murray irrigators have been granted a small increase in their water allocations.

The irrigators' allocations have risen 2 per cent to 48 per cent of their entitlements from Monday, the SA Government says.

SA River Murray Minister Karlene Maywald says only 10 gigalitres of extra water from the Murray has become available to the state.

"The return to below average rainfall, coupled with above average temperatures, has resulted in lower than expected inflows during late October and early November," Ms Maywald said.

"The conditions currently being experienced across the Murray Darling Basin are similar to those usually observed in mid-summer."
