Jack Bobridge has nudged the world mark on the way to lifting the 4000 metres individual pursuit crown at the Australian track cycling titles.
The 20-year-old South Australian wasted little time warming up at the Adelaide Superdrome, returning the second-fastest 4000m individual pursuit ride of all time in afternoon qualifying.
Bobrisge stopped the clock at 4 mins 14.427 secs - besting Brad McGee's Australian record and also the Olympic record set by Britain's reigning champion Bradley Wiggins at the 2008 Beijing Games.
He was only three seconds short of the mark set by another Briton, Chris Boardman, at the 1996 World Championships, who used a "superman" riding posture that has since been outlawed.
