I'm not pushing the panic button: Vidmar

06 Nov, 2009 07:21 AM
Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar says he's not about to panic just yet.

The Reds enter tonight's home encounter against lowly Brisbane in seventh spot on the A-League ladder.

But Vidmar takes solace, as the season reaches the halfway mark, that just nine points separate the top seven sides.

"There's certainly no need to push the panic button," Vidmar said yesterday.

"We'll just keep working hard and try to make sure everyone is gelling at the right time and at the right moment ... and if we do that hopefully we're a good show.

"It's still very tight but sooner or later everyone is going to start breaking away, and I think you've already seen that a little bit with Melbourne and Sydney.

"So if we really want to stay in contention for the finals it's certainly a game we need to win tomorrow."

Vidmar has been forced into at least one change to the starting line up with attacking midfielder Mathew Leckie sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Adelaide have scored just 12 goals from 13 fixtures, while ninth-placed Brisbane have scored 16 from the same number of games.

Vidmar said his charges need to click up front.

"Our movement last week was so much better," he said.

"Getting it into the front third is not a problem for us, it's just that lack of quality, that final pass, that last shot on goal is just letting us down.

"But I know if one goes in, then we hopefully start getting on a bit of a roll."
