Victory stretch A-League lead

30 Nov, 2009 08:03 AM
Melbourne Victory are five points clear atop the A-League after Sydney FC's third straight loss last night.

The sky blues suffered a shock 3-1 loss at home to Newcastle, with Branko Culina returning to haunt his old club and former Sydney striker Michael Bridges scoring twice.

Sydney remain second but they are now five points behind the Victory, who thrashed a depleted Gold Coast 4-0 on Saturday night.

Brisbane scored a 4-1 win over Wellington last night, a result which left Adelaide at the bottom of the ladder.
